The chapter on delegation was particularly eye-opening, especially for those of us who hold ourselves and others to high standards. I found the section on feedback incredibly impactful. The AID acronym in the feedback chapter provided practical guidance, and the SMART framework in another chapter was equally helpful. Each chapter includes a quick self-analysis section, with thoughtful questions directed at both leaders and those in higher-level leadership positions, like CEOs. This approach makes the book not only relevant but also highly actionable for leaders at every level. Do yourself and others you work with a favor- read this book!

This comprehensive book is a great guide for managers of all types who want to make sure they are managing their people thoughtfully and effectively. Senior leaders, too, could stand to remind themselves of some of the content. Why do I like the book so much? - It is optimistic. Acton says we can all learn to be better managers. Management isn't an esoteric science but a set of concrete practices and mindsets within the reach of anyone willing to put in the time and effort. - It is practical. The book offers many real life examples, teaches you relevant skills, and leads you step by step through their application. - It is clear and accessible. No jargon, just straightforward, easy to understand, wisdom and advice. - It is human and reassuring, never preachy or boring. It is even humorous, making it easy to read despite the depth and extent of its content. Two big thumbs up!
